Solar panels: how to get the most out of your own electricity

Electricity you use yourself straight away gives you the biggest return today. These tips help you increase your self-consumption.

With solar panels you generate your own electricity. Since the introduction of the digital meter in Flanders, it pays most to use as much of that electricity as possible yourself at the moment it is generated, rather than feeding it into the grid. How do you do that?

Tips to increase your self-consumption

  • Run appliances during the day: washing machine, dishwasher and dryer with a delayed start.
  • Charge your electric car with solar power: a smart charger adjusts the charging power to your production.
  • Heat water with solar power: with an electric water heater or heat pump water heater.
  • Use home automation: let appliances switch on automatically when there is a surplus.
  • Monitor your production and consumption via your inverter’s app or your home automation system.

A good installation is the foundation

Solar panels, an EV charger or a heat pump must be correctly connected to your distribution board, in line with the AREI. We look at your entire installation, so everything works together safely and optimally.
